- MUSEUM NEWS -
Initial planning for the NWA History Centre included a newsletter. It was hoped that the first issue would be published shortly after the doors were opened. That didn’t work out. Our on time performance has been poor with several months time elapsed since the museum was opened. Maybe such a delay isn’t so bad as history shows about a two-year delay in the delivery of the first NWA Boeing Startocruiser some fifty-four years ago. We promise to do better in the future and plan publishing the newsletter at least quarterly.
No one had a good feel of what to expect when news was released that our group had formed a non profit corporation and were opening a museum dedicated to the preservation of the History of Northwest Airlines, its merger partners and their predecessors. Our efforts have been well received and for all practical purposes very favorable and supportive. More that 150 individuals that we know of, and several others have just left items at our door, have donated artifacts and memorabilia. We most gratefully thank all those who have contributed.
- NEW PHONE NUMBER -
The History Center has a new phone number. (952) 997-8000, select option 8 – Extension 6102
- VISITORS -
Recently we were privileged to have about 250 people attend a special museum showing in conjunction with the B-727 retirement party. Captains Jim McKenzie and Tom Neiderer, have produced a video of the
B-727 NWA years that includes footage from the retirement party. Copies of that video are available through their web site NWA727.com. A few individual employee retirement parties have been held in the museum, as have meetings of various employee and area business groups. We are fortunate to have adjacent facilities and the availability of catering service to facilitate those types of gatherings. No charge is levied for the use of the facility, however we request that users make a suitable monetary donation.
- NOT FOR PROFIT STATUS -
The Internal Revenue Service has designated NWA History Centre, Inc. status as a non-profit corporation. This is a reminder that all contributions, either monetary or material, can be construed to be tax deductible.
It is important to note that it is the responsibility the donor to determine the value of any material contributed to the museum. None of the museum directors and/or volunteers is authorized to make any appraisal or render opinions as to the value of donated items.
- VOLUNTEERS -
The museum could not exist without the aid of our volunteers. They provide all of the talent, labor and effort to make the organization function. We have been very fortunate in assembling a great group of dedicated people, but we can always use more.
