The following are some of the talents, which are currently needed. CAN YOU HELP?

Web site development - Light carpentry and electrical work – Newsletter Production

Visitor Guide – Data Entry - Interviewer

All of the volunteers have expressed great satisfaction and enjoyment is spending time at the museum and having the opportunity to visit with and reminisce with old acquaintances about the “Good Old Days”. They seem to specially enjoy meeting individuals who drop by whose names are familiar but whom they have never before met. A lot of great stories are heard about old time workers and incidents, some of which may be embellished to the point that occasionally the stories must be taken with a grain of salt.

- TOM ROSTKOSKI -

The History Centre was truly blessed when Tom Rostkoski stepped forward to offer his help in getting the museum started. He spent a great deal of his time and talent in the development of exhibits and provided a substantial volume of NWA historic material. Without a doubt he was our strongest promoter. Tom’s untimely death was a devasting blow. Almost daily we find odds and ends type of jobs that he took care of and of which we were unaware. He is truly missed.

- GIFT SHOP -

One of the History Centre’s sources of income is the sale of various items of merchandise that carry the old logos of NWA and some of the other airlines that are now part of NWA. These items include caps, sweat and tee shirts, both screen printed and embroidered, as well as coffee cups and similar items. The Gift Shop has recently been remodeled and upgraded through the efforts of volunteers Bill Marchessault and Keith Oberg. The shop is an excellent source of aircraft models. We have direct ties with several factories and should be able to locate just about any aircraft models in just about any scale and with just about any logos and color scheme desired.

- NEWS OF YESTERYEAR -

A planed feature of our newsletter is to highlight happenings of the past in the History of Northwest Airlines, its merger partners and their predecessors. Many of these items have been gleamed from the pages of old issues of company newsletters. We are fortunate to have a rather complete file of past issues of NWA newsletters, thanks mostly to retired station manager Jack Hinkley, who has contributed his collection of just about every issue from the mid 1940’s to the current year. Thanks Jack for providing us with an invaluable reference source.

We also have received a few copies of an earlier newsletter, “THE BEAM”, including the first issue dated in 1942 as well as a couple of single sheet newsletters that come from the St. Paul Modification Center during the days of World War II. We are led to believe that there may have been an earlier newsletter, allegedly published in Seattle around 1940. If any such newsletters exist we would surely like to have them.

- THE NOT SO GOOD OLD DAYS -

We thought we would begin our review of the airline’s history with a look back about fifty years, the first few years if the 1950’s. Operationally those were some of the company’s bleakest days. During a period of about two year’s, seven aircraft were lost in
