Postscript: Ship 9676, the Northern Transcontinental Survey Flight’s Ford Tri-motor, had a rather interesting history. It was first flown April 19, 1929. Delivered to Standard Oil Company of Indiana, Chicago, Ill., 1929. Operated as “Stanoline III” until August 1931. Northwest Airways, St. Paul, Minnesota, 8-2-31 to May 1935. Issued Export License No. E-1449 in May 1935 to Holland, Sept 4, 1935 through August 26, 1936. Sold Aug.26 to N. V. Bataafse Petroleum Maatschappij. No further information. Excellent photo, in Standard Oil markings on inside front cover of Aviation Week, February 20, 1950. This information from William Larkins remarkable book “The Ford Story”.

A Word About Our Plans and Our Finances
A few months ago, we embarked on a rather ambitious program to electronically preserve the company newsletters. If we are successful, we hope to expand the program to include newsletters of all the retiree groups and somehow, similar documents from the predecessor carriers. Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, a listing has been produced to make a record of all issues. We have copies of just about all NWA newsletters, though there are a few holes that need to be filled. Hopefully someone has copies of the few issues that are missing.
As all labor for the project is supplied by unpaid volunteers, the project expense is relatively modest. We estimate a need for around $33,000 to cover the acquisition of hardware and storage equipment as well as library and other software. Additional volunteers are needed. If anyone would like to assist, please give us a call. And, of course, we can always use monetary contributions, as our only source of income is through donations, membership dues and sales in our gift shop.
Please consider a special donation. If you are not already a member, please consider becoming a NWA History Centre Associate Member. If already a member please keep your dues current
All dues and contributions are tax deductible!
