Got a Story for Us?

Do you have a story to tell about any of the personalities, places or things from the old Northwest and/or the other airlines that combined to make today’s NWA the great airline it is? If so, we’d sure like to hear about them. Drop us a note with the details, or if you prefer give us a call and we will have one of our editors get back to you. They will help you or write the story for you. If you want, they’ll make sure you see and approve a final draft before the story goes to press and/or identifies you as the story’s source.

Organization and Funding

This is intended as a refresher for those in the know but also for the enlightenment of our other readers….. NWA History Centre, Inc. is a Minnesota not for profit corporation. It was created and is managed, staffed and operated by a group of retirees, employees, former employees and other friends of Northwest Airlines and its predecessor airlines. There is no direct affiliation with NWA, Inc. or Northwest Airlines. However, two of the purposes of the History Centre are to provide a depository for historical material related to the activities of the airline and to provide a research and general educational facility.

NWA History Centre operates its museum in leased space (at most favorable rates) in a building owned by Wings Financial Federal Credit Union in Bloomington, Minnesota. We are forever grateful for their generosity.

The Centre’s only sources of funding are; voluntary contributions, sales of our Gift Shop merchandise, special fund raising events and Associate Member dues. Internal Revenue has designated NWA History Centre as a 501(C)(3) organization; thus, all contributions are income tax deductible (subject to individual limitations) for the donor.

To facilitate giving, Wings Financial Credit Union has a program for the periodic transfer of funds from credit union members’ accounts to NWA History Centre. Transfers of a few bucks each month save a lot of paper work and are much appreciated. We also have a working agreement with an organization for the resale of autos, boats, etc. if anyone is inclined to make such a donation. Contribution of stock and bonds as well as distributions from charitable trust accounts would be gratefully received.

Annual Associate Member dues are $25.00. Because we can save the cost of printing, handling and postage, we reduce the annual dues to $20.00 for those who prefer to get their copy of our periodic newsletters via e-mail. An annual Sponsorship Membership is available at $100.00.

In addition a Lifetime Membership is offered with a onetime payment of $500.00. A recognition plaque with the donor’s name engraved is attached to a display case for each Lifetime Membership.

History Centre Happenings

Visitors to the History Centre seldom see a great deal of activity. But, that can be very misleading as there is a lot going on behind the scene thanks to our outstanding corps of volunteers.

Since we got started about five years ago, there have been many donations of old operating and maintenance manuals. Most of these date back to the days when everything had propellers or the early jet powered aircraft that made up the airline’s fleet. We are fortunate to have a few
